Robin Dewald from Excelsior College shared how she helps faculty leverage "The Power of Presence" last week. We are very grateful to Robin, not only for a fabulous session, but also for sharing this list of resources. What a wonderful holiday present. Thank you Robin!!!

This week is about planning.  On Wednesday we will be planning the next version of Teaching Online for Beginners (TOL4B) and on FridayLive! we will seeking input on future programming. As Dr Seuss would say "Oh, the places you'll go." In our case, oh, the places we will go together.

Teaching Online for Beginners (TOL4B .v3) Planning
Date: December 19, 2014

We intend to build on the what we have learned from TOL4B1 & TOL4B2 as
we work to build version #3 which will:
  • Engage very successful, experienced online teachers (e.g., panel of respondents to those who are just beginning…)
  • Help participants feel not afraid, guilty
  • Better prepared for moving forward teaching online
  • Not replacing offerings available from your own institution…
  • Offer/Encourage cohorts?

Below are some questions we are wrestling with:
  • Open to everyone?
  • Multiple paths?
  • Roles?
  • Asynch resources accessible to everyone?
  • Fridaylive! Members Only
  • Designated Planners, Teachers, Learners
  • Cohorts:
    • Yes/No?
    • Size?
    • Composition?
      • Institutional Subscribers
      • Individual Members
      • Individual Members “Plus-Ones”
      • Any Self-Identified Cohort
      • Requested Matched-by-TLTG Cohort
    • Common Schedule?
  • Hybrid/Blended vs. Purely Online?
  • Overall
    • F2F AND/OR Online
    • Entirely Asynch
    • Entirely Synch

 Cognitive Science Book Discussion Series
The Cognitive Science book discussion series Concludes on
January 9th as we discuss the 3rd and final book in our series. FICTION: Sloan, Robin (2013)  Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, Picador, New York, NY. (It's a novel, but it deals (colorfully and rivetingly) with the clash between so-called Old Knowledge (books) and New Knowledge (internet and other virtual forms of communication). Not only that, it's a great read--funny, swashbuckling, and serious by turns.)
